PGG Wrightson Bloodstock is a division of the rural servicing company, PGG Wrightson Limited. The Standardbred Division is based in Christchurch and the company itself employs over 2700 personnel and has a proud history that includes the sale as a yearling of the immortal Phar Lap.
The PGG Wrightson Bloodstock team is headed by Bruce Barlass and Peter Lagan who both joined the company in 1987 and ran the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale in Christchurch. Three years later and now concentrating on standardbreds the Division was also conducting the major North Island sale - the Australasian Classic at the magnificent Karaka Centre in Auckland.
Sales Turnover Tops $15 Million
The New Zealand sales scene has gone from strength to strength and, while both sales retain their individuality, the unity under the PGG Wrightson umbrella has been a major benefit to the industry. Especially in such things as producing a top quality catalogue, developing the 'New Zealand Sales Week' concept, or the $1,000,000 plus Sales Race Series or the very successful 'inward buyer scheme'.
A Well Established Company
With the recent merger of well established companies, PGG Wrightson provides the Division with an infrastructure of financial stability, specialised staff and sound business systems. Over and above everything, hard work and being part of a long rural heritage has given the Division its greatest asset - a position of unparalleled integrity within the racing industry. It is that position of integrity and trust that sees the Division play a highly respected role as advisers, valuers, private sellers and insurers of bloodstock. The latter through the security of the Company's own Insurance Division.
